Active Nation Moonwalkers
In the run-up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, Active Nation is motivating Scots of all ages, backgrounds, shapes and sizes to get more active and get more out of life, in turn delivering a lasting legacy which Scotland can be proud of.
Scots are being asked to register their Personal Activity Goals at www.ouractivenation.co.uk and inspire others to get active too.
Our Active Nation team of five women have set their personal activity goal which they will be doing when they fly the flag for Active Nation during the MoonWalk in Edinburgh on 19th June. The team will join thousands of women to walk 13 miles through Edinburgh, helping raise awareness of breast cancer.
To prepare for the big challenge, the team is being put through their paces ahead of the event by a personal trainer and nutritionist with tailored training programmes devised to help them get in top shape.
Heather Elshout, 47, is a mum of two who is keen to build activity into her everyday life. She said: "This is the ideal opportunity for me to increase my personal fitness as well being able to say that I have accomplished something worthwhile. Sometimes it is difficult to get motivated and having a goal helps. I hope this opportunity can boost my self-confidence and encourage me to stay active."
Sandra Miller, 63, is also part of the Active Nation MoonWalk team. The grandmother doesn't want age to slow her down and wants to continue to keep fit. She said: "I will love the feeling of accomplishment that this type of challenge can bring. My husband died of cancer two years ago and I would like to help raise money for other cancer charities. I hope that I can inspire others to see that no matter what your age you can get active and help a good cause at the same time."
Claire Wyllie runs her own personal training business – Be Fit with Claire and is getting the team ready for their challenge on 19th June. She said: "Sometimes taking the first step to getting more active can be the hardest and some motivation and encouragement is the best recipe. Getting together with friends to help a charity is a great idea. You can support each other, raise money and have fun in the process.
"Each woman who is part of Active Nation's MoonWalk team has their own reason for joining. Setting their own Personal Activity Goals will help inspire themselves and others to get walking. The Active Nation MoonWalk team will show Scots how you can get active and have fun at the same time."
