Alcohol Awareness Week
Across Scotland it's Alcohol Awareness Week...a 7-day focus on alcohol and how it can be part of a healthy lifestyle, if enjoyed responsibly. The campaign is being applied through 7 challenges, designed to help ensure that your drinking levels are safe. Small changes are the most effective...PR Consultant Suzie Fraser has adopted 2 of the challenges...to take more water between drinks and to order smaller glasses of wine.
"As you get older, drinking has an effect on your skin and your looks...and you become aware of the negative effect from alcohol."
Up to 50% of men and 30% of women are drinking beyond sensible guidelines...Suzie can understand the greater percentage attached to males...
"Women have it slightly easier than men because generally there isn't the same social pressure"
Fellow PR consultant Lorraine Alonzi has chosen to have two alcohol-free days every week as one of her challenges...
"I think I've been pretty successful over the last few weeks...I have been going out for dinner rather than just going for drinks. I've felt a lot better in myself and I've saved a lot of money!"
Lorraine keeps a drinking diary and she's been able to deal with negative influence
"You do come up against peer pressure and all of my friends have been egging me on to have a drink...as long as you have the will to do it, you'll be successful"
Suzie Fraser has been pleasantly surprised by how easy it's been to keep up the challenges.
"You think initially that you're taking on a lot...but actually it becomes motivational. It wasn't as if I was forbidden alcohol. I found I felt much better in the morning and that helped my days more pleasant!"

p.s. Kaz, who are you kidding?? You only enjoy yourself due to a large concoction of narcotics being consumed....and i bet you never got a fine lady at the end of the night?? So make your own decision...Dave-o-Saurus
I went out last weekend, all day saturday drinking, got paraletic, poured drinks over my head, sick down myself, thrown out the pub and nightclub, pulled a girl. Great night all in all.Dave-o-Saurus

I am teetotal and have no interest in alcohol. It seems the majority of people just get carried away and don't know when to stop drinking. Too many of them can't enjoy themselves without alcohol, whereas I am proof that you can still have a good time without it.Kaz
