Call Your Lifeline - the Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline

Living with domestic abuse can be frightening and many women struggle to take the first step to seek help and support. It's a difficult thing to do at a time when you can be at your most vulnerable but the Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline is the light at the end of the tunnel.

The attentive helpline volunteers received over 15,000 calls from women across the country last year looking for a friendly ear, information on how to escape from an abusive partner and how to access services such as housing, medical attention and legal guidance.

Contacting the helpline cannot be easier as the volunteers have made the process as simple and smooth as possible. Knowing what to expect at the other end of the phone is a great comfort to those contemplating calling.

If you are being abused by your partner, or know someone who is, the helpline volunteers will do everything they can to provide comfort, advice and support.

- You will not be put through to a call centre. Calls are taken by volunteers in their own home - it's just like phoning a friend.
- There's always someone there for you - the helpline is open 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Your abuser cannot trace your call - the helpline number will not show up on the house phone bill
- You will not be forced out of your home or into refuge accommodation
- Your children will not be taken away from you because you call

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse please call the confidential Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline free on 0800 027 1234 or alternatively, log on to www.domesticabuse.co.uk
