Children's Panel

Here in Scotland we have a unique approach to dealing with children and young people in trouble or at risk. The Children's Panel makes decisions with one mission...to improve the life of the child...Susan Gray has been a Panel Member now for 2 years..."Most People have contact with Children in their lives and are aware of the things that affect Children. I would strongly advice anyone thinking about it to come along to an information evening."

Just imagine being the part of a team that can change the direction of a child's life for the better. The Children's Panel doesn't ONLY deal with bad or troubled children. Violet Rosike is an Ambulance Driver who came through the system as a child. "My experiences in my job help me deal with the cases I tackle on the Children's Panel...but equally my experiences on the Children's Panel help me with my career."

John Small has been a Children's Panel member for over five years and in that time he's helped young people overcome hardship, abuse and neglect to move on in life. One recent case was in tears because it was her final panel and she'd developed a strong bond with the members who had changed her life. "We've got a fireman, a paramedic, a train driver a retired physiotherapist, school teachers, students, mothers who have taken time out to have children."

John himself lives a busy life, but being a Children's Panel member is something he can still accommodate. "I would personally recommend it for anyone who wants to do better for the children of Scotland...because we do change lives"
