Don't Risk It! Leave the car at home

The Scottish Government and Road Safety Scotland are supporting ACPOS and the Crown Office to deliver Scotland's festive drink-driving campaign.

A new campaign has been launched - Scotland has just got tougher on drink-driving.

There are now greater consequences of drink-driving under the new enforcement initiative. New enforcement in Scotland means if you are caught drink-driving for a second time, your vehicle can be taken away from you for good. Authorities have the power to seize and enforce forfeiture of the driver's vehicle under the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

The message is simple… Get caught and we will take away your licence. Get caught again and we can take away your car, so you don't take away a life.
Drink driving. Don't risk it.

Driving or attempting to drive whilst above the legal alcohol limit will result in:
- Loss of licence - an automatic 12 month driving ban
- A risk of being fined up to £5,000
- A criminal record - for a minimum of 20 years
- An offence which stays on your licence for 11 years
- And can now result in seizure and forfeiture of the vehicle

Don't Risk It - don't drink and drive, not just over the festive season but always.

Make your friends and family aware of the consequences of drink-driving, including the new enforcement, and discourage them from drinking and driving.
