Fire Setting
This week on Life Matters we look at the dangers of Fire setting...it's still the biggest problem facing Scotland's fire and rescue services.
Latest figures suggest that over 80 fires per day in Scotland are caused by fire setting, unnecessarily diverting fire service resources away from other serious incidents and putting lives at risk.
With so many incidents, the financial strain of Fire Setting is also frustrating...the average cost of a deliberate fire, in terms of damage and management is around £2000!
Fire Setting is illegal and a simple call to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 can help stop it happening...One problem is that many feel their call will not be acted upon...but it will...a recent drive in the Pollok area of Glasgow set out to make residents aware of this fact. Paul Henry from Scottish Fire and Rescue was involved in the project.
"During the 5 week monitoring period there was a 35% drop in secondary fires...The People in this area starting reporting such incidents...they recognised that their actions always sparked a reaction...when fire setting is reported we DO act accordingly"
Fire Setting is a CRIME that will not be tolerated..you can report those who start fires in your community in complete confidence...Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
