Greener Scotland

We all need to do our bit for the environment. The Scottish Government has announced tough new targets to make sure that we keep as much waste as possible out of landfill sites and that we all actively recycle as much as we can. We can meet these targets but we all need to do our bit.

We can all recycle paper, cardboard, glass, tins and plastic bottles either via a kerbside collection or at our local recycling facilities. Once you get into the habit it's so easy to sort and recycle your waste. Instead of putting it in the waste bin put it into your recycling bin or box. It really is that simple.

We also need to cut down on the number of plastic bags that we use. It's estimated that over one billion bags were in use in Scotland in 2007 and it's important that this number is dramatically reduced, and that the bags we use are recycled.

Retailers are doing their bit by offering bags for life and plastic bag recycling facilities but what can we do? Well, it's really easy - re use the carrier bags you have, take them with you when you go shopping, buy some bag for life carriers and make sure that you recycle your old bags!

These really are simple and easy steps that anyone can make.
