See the person not the age
You probably wouldn't like to be defined by your age, but do you ever judge someone by theirs?
See the Person – Not the age, is the Scottish Government's ageism campaign, set to tackle people's negative stereotypes towards a persons age.
Helena Scott, from Age Concern Scotland gives an example of how people can stereotype an older person, and judge them simply because of their age.
"A gentleman in his 70's, had an anti social order served against him, for rollerblading in a shopping centre! What was interesting was that people thought he was really acting quite disgracefully. His argument was that he was very fit and asked, ‘how do you want me to be?"
You shouldn't judge someone simply by their age, but instead because of the person they are, and their abilities.
By talking and working together, the younger and older generations can learn a lot from one another.
Are you guilty of judging someone simply because of their date of birth?
