The Big Drop
In partnership with Natural Scotland's Zero Waste campaign, we will be launching a major campaign to get the people of Scotland to recycle their unused or unwanted musical and sports equipment.
From January along with our sister radio stations across the country we will be asking everyone to have a route around their attics, garages and cupboards to dig out their unused and unwanted musical or sports equipment.
The idea behind the activity is to help youth groups and associations across the country to receive equipment that would otherwise languish in the dark corners of our homes or find their way to landfill when the day finally comes for them to be thrown out.
It's a win-win for everyone; the youth groups get free equipment, you free up valuable space and our environment does not have to deal with the disposal of the unwanted equipment or suffer the effects of manufacturing them from new.
Throughout the month we will be asking you to drop your equipment off at our reception from where it will be collected and then redistributed. Special collections will be arranged for large or heavy items.
We will also give youth groups in your area the opportunity to receive equipment donated by registering on line at the station web sites, telling us what equipment they need and why they should receive it.
So remember...
Do your bit for the environment... Donating your no longer wanted musical or sports equipment to The Big Drop will not only put it to good use but it will help reduce waste and reducing the need to manufacture new equipment will help keep CO2 emissions to a minimum.
...and your community
Organisations and youth groups all over the country will benefit from receiving your unwanted equipment. One of the biggest capital expenses of any group is the purchase of equipment, new or used. By donating you will be supporting groups in your area, giving them the chance to focus on providing services to those that need it most rather than worrying about how to raise funds to buy the equipment they need.
What to do next
If you want to donate an item, bring it along to our reception any time between 10 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday.
If you have a large and heavy item, give us a call on the number below and speak to our contact. We may be able to arrange a special up-lift from your home depending on the type of item.
