Violence at Work
Work related violence and aggression ranges from physical attacks and intimidation to shouting or swearing. Transport workers, retail staff, bar workers, emergency service workers, hospitality staff and call centre staff are just some of the professionals which are all too commonly subjected to unacceptable and abusive behaviour whilst trying to carry out their job.
No one should go to work in fear of being abused by another person. Many people who experience abuse at work view it as being 'part of the job' and don't report incidents to employers or the police, but they should as abuse is totally unacceptable and legislation is in place to protect workers. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act, every employer has a legal duty to ensure abuse is dealt with effectively.
